Now Seeking Professional Actors

The Downtown Cabaret Theatre (Bridgeport, CT) is now accepting submissions for adult non-equity actors of all types who would like to be considered for roles in our professional Theatre for Young Audiences Season!

The Downtown Cabaret Theatre opened its doors in 1976, and has since established itself as a one-of-a-kind showplace and the jewel of Downtown Bridgeport for adults and children alike. Its unique “bring your own picnic” cabaret-style atmosphere has helped make the a favorite for audiences of all ages as they enjoy one of the theatre’s many high quality productions with friends and family.

The Cabaret’s award winning Theatre For Young Audiences productions are a particular favorite. All TYA shows are original musical adaptations of classic fairy tales and children’s stories (two acts, approx 75min). Utilizing talented professional adult performers, professional creative teams, and top of the line production quality these adaptations draw from the influences of British Panto, Commedia, and Farce to create a totally unique brand of storytelling not found anywhere else in Connecticut. Under the guidance of Executive Producer Hugh Hallinan and Artistic Director Phill Hill and their combined 60+ years of theatrical expertise, the Downtown Cabaret’s Theatre For Young Audiences has become a consistently beloved staple of the Downtown Cabaret brand.

Rehearsals for all TYA productions begin 4 weeks prior to opening. Rehearsals are Monday – Thursdays in the evenings (6:00p-10:00p)

Regular performances are Saturdays and Sundays at noon and 2:30. During most productions there are additional “Student Matinees” for school field trips which are generally Wednesday-Friday at 10:00 and noon. Student Matinees are scheduled throughout the season and vary depending on demand.

(Note we have not officially scheduled any Student Matinees since COVID, but plan to re-instate them later in the season as circumstances permit)
