The Downtown Cabaret Theatre (Bridgeport, CT) is now accepting submissions for adult non-equity actors of all types who would like to be considered for roles in our professional Theatre for Young Audiences Season!
ABOUT THE CABARET
The Downtown Cabaret Theatre opened its doors in 1976, and has since established itself as a one-of-a-kind showplace and the jewel of Downtown Bridgeport for adults and children alike. Its unique “bring your own picnic” cabaret-style atmosphere has helped make the a favorite for audiences of all ages as they enjoy one of the theatre’s many high quality productions with friends and family.
The Cabaret’s award winning Theatre For Young Audiences productions are a particular favorite. All TYA shows are original musical adaptations of classic fairy tales and children’s stories (two acts, approx 75min). Utilizing talented professional adult performers, professional creative teams, and top of the line production quality these adaptations draw from the influences of British Panto, Commedia, and Farce to create a totally unique brand of storytelling not found anywhere else in Connecticut. Under the guidance of Executive Producer Hugh Hallinan and Artistic Director Phill Hill and their combined 60+ years of theatrical expertise, the Downtown Cabaret’s Theatre For Young Audiences has become a consistently beloved staple of the Downtown Cabaret brand.

FOR PERFORMERS
Rehearsals:
Rehearsals for all TYA productions begin 4 weeks prior to opening. Rehearsals are Monday – Thursdays in the evenings (6:00p-10:00p)
Performances:
Regular performances are Saturdays and Sundays at noon and 2:30. During most productions there are additional “Student Matinees” for school field trips which are generally Wednesday-Friday at 10:00 and noon. Student Matinees are scheduled throughout the season and vary depending on demand.
(Note we have not officially scheduled any Student Matinees since COVID, but plan to re-instate them later in the season as circumstances permit)
Compensation:
Rehearsals: Flat rehearsal stipend of $200
Performances: $50 per performance

THE SANTA STORY

We all know who Santa Claus is, but where did he come from? This brand new Cabaret original is the heart-warming and hilarious story of a young St. Nick and his journey to become Santa Claus. The perfect blend of music, mayhem, and merriment for the whole family that is sure to have you ringing jingle bells this holiday season.
RAPUNZEL
January 8 – February 6
A new “twist” on the classic tale about the girl with the long golden hair. When the young Rapunzel has been locked in a tower by a wicked enchantress, it takes a handsome young prince to help her escape, and that’s just the beginning of the story! Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair.
WIZARD OF OZ
February 19 – March 27
The timeless story by L. Frank Baum tells the tale of Dorothy’s journey over the rainbow to the mysterious and exciting land of Oz. Join Dorothy and her new friends as they travel down the yellow brick road in hopes that the wonderful Wizard can show them the way home.
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
April 16 – May 22
Who could ever love a beast? Join us for this new and exciting adaptation of the classic tale of a hideous beast and his quest to break an evil spell and find love with a beautiful young woman. It’s the timeless story that reminds us that true beauty comes from within.
SUBMISSIONS
If you are interested in being considered for any or all Downtown Cabaret Theatre productions, send a short video you singing 16 bars of 2 songs (one uptempo and one ballad) of your choosing (preferably in the pop/rock genre).
