The Premier Elton John Tribute Band Bennie and the Jets returns to the Downtown Cabaret Theatre Stage on February 25th! Learn more about the band below!
How did Bennie and the Jets form and what sparked your interest in Elton John?
I was playing piano and singing in a hotel lounge when the hotel owner asked if I could play an Elton John song. I fumbled my way through “I Guess That’s Why They Call it the Blues”. Afterwards, he started the reason he asked was because I sounded like Elton when playing other musicians’ songs. He said I should wear funny glasses and outfits and act like Elton. I bought the box set of “To Be Continued”; formed a band, and the rest is history.
What can patrons expect to hear during your tribute concert?
We perform the older classic from Elton John. From 1970 to 1984. Basic greatest hits, with some rare deep cuts thrown in.
Do you have any pre or post concert rituals?
No real rituals for the pre- show. We always do a meet and greet after the performance.
Aside from Elton John, who are your biggest musical inspirations?
I would say Dan Folgelburg, and James Taylor. I also love Dave Matthews and Collective Soul.
