Downtown Cabaret Main Stage Theatre Presents

MUSICALS IN CONCERT: CHESS

The Downtown Cabaret Theatre’s Main Stage Theatre division (Producing Artistic Director, Eli Newsom) continues its 2015/16 season with Musicals in Concert: CHESS. This one-night-only engagement will be held on:

Saturday November 14 @ 7:30pm

Proceeds from the production will support the 40th Anniversary season of the Downtown Cabaret Theatre organization, led by Executive Producer Hugh Hallinan. The evening will also include a basket-raffle fundraiser at intermission.

CHESS is a 1986 pop-musical with music by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, formerly of ABBA, and with lyrics by Tim Rice. The story involves a politically driven, Cold War-era chess tournament between two men—an American grandmaster and a Soviet grandmaster—and their fight over a woman who manages one and falls in love with the other. Although the protagonists were not intended to represent any real individuals, the character of the American grandmaster (named Freddie Trumper in the stage version) was loosely based on Bobby Fischer, while elements of the story may have been inspired by the chess careers of Russian grandmasters Viktor Korchnoi and Anatoly Karpov. For this concert version, several different actors will rotate in each role in order to feature the large, local talented cast of singers.

The cast of local performers includes: Bill Adams, Zach Anderson, Brian Bish, Saige Bryan, Marcelo Calderon, Josh Cardozo, Christian Cardozo, Joe Cardozo, Becky Craig, Brian Crook, Chelsea Dacey, Lisa Dahlstrom, Juliet Dale, Lisa DeAngelis, Eric Dino, Stephen DiRocco, Lance Gray, Minuette Griffin, Bobby Henry, Angela Jackson, Will Jeffries, Lindsay Johnson, Marnie Kruse, Emma LaPlace, Tony Leone, T.
