Downtown Cabaret Main Stage Theatre Presents MEMPHIS

Downtown Cabaret Main Stage Theatre Presents MEMPHIS, Sep 25-Oct 11  2015

Downtown Cabaret Main Stage Theatre (Producing Artistic Director, Eli Newsom) launches its 2015/16 season with the 1960s R&B musical MEMPHIS, running Sep 25-Oct 11, 2015 at the Downtown Cabaret Theatre, 263 Golden Hill Street, Downtown Bridgeport. The production will launch the 40th Anniversary of the Downtown Cabaret Theatre organization, led by Executive Producer Hugh Hallinan.

MEMPHIS, the winner of four TONY Awards including Best Musical in 2010, is loosely based Memphis disc jockey Dewey Phillips, one of the first white DJs to play black music. Featuring music and lyrics by David Bryan (of Bon Jovi) and book-writer/lyricist Joe DiPietro, the rousing 60s R&B score is inspiring and reminiscent of Motown classics. Following the Civil Rights riots of the early 60s and segregation laws, the plot revolves around white DJ Huey Calhoun and his romantic partnership with black singer Felicia Farrell.

The performance schedule for MEMPHIS will be as follows: Sep 25-Oct 11. Fridays @ 7:30pm: Sep 25, Oct 2 & 9. Saturdays @ 5pm & 8:15pm: Sep 26, Oct 3 & 10. Sundays @ 5pm: Sep 27, Oct 4 & 11. There will be a preview performance on Thursday Sep 25 @ 7:30pm, where all tickets are just $18. Seating begins 30-45 minutes before showtime, and an attended parking lot is available across from the theater on Golden Hill St.
